Five of Swords talks of the competition that creates a winner and loser. In a relationship reading, this is not really the card you should hope to get because it shows an imbalance or a rivalry between the two lovers. Perhaps, they are just pushing their viewpoints on each other which at one point becomes too much to handle and thus one of the lovers gives up. Five of Swords basically shows one of the worst scenarios. Notice the man who is holding the swords is smiling at the ones who were defeated by him.
